Trademark Registration Fees in Vietnam (2026)
How trademark fees work in Vietnam: official fees charged per class of goods/services, what the 2025 fee reduction covers, and the cost drivers to budget for.
Table of contents
The cost of registering a trademark in Vietnam depends mainly on the number of classes of goods and services. Understanding the structure helps foreign applicants budget accurately.
Official fees are per class
Official fees are set by Circular 263/2016/TT-BTC and charged per class — filing fee, search fee and substantive examination fee all multiply by the number of classes and, for some fees, by the number of goods/services above a threshold within a class. A mark covering three classes therefore costs meaningfully more than a single-class mark.
The 2025 fee reduction
Circular 64/2025 reduces certain charges (lệ phí) by 50% until 31 December 2026 — but this applies to specific line-item charges, not to the examination and search fees (phí), which remain unchanged. It is a modest saving, not a broad discount.
Other cost drivers
- Number of classes and number of goods/services per class.
- Whether a pre-filing search is conducted.
- Responses to office actions or oppositions, if any.
- Professional (representative) fees, which are separate from official fees.
Frequently asked questions
How are trademark fees calculated in Vietnam?
Primarily per class of goods/services; more classes mean higher official fees.
Did the 2025 change make trademarks cheaper?
Only slightly — Circular 64/2025 cuts certain charges by 50% until end-2026, but the main examination and search fees are unchanged.
Are professional fees included in official fees?
No. Representative/professional fees are quoted separately from government fees.
