Table of contents

The investor visa (symbol DT) is issued to foreigners investing in Vietnam. It is tiered by the amount of capital contributed, and the tier determines how long you can stay and whether you qualify for a residence card. This guide compares the four tiers in 2026 and outlines the process.

The four DT tiers

VisaCapitalVisa validityResidence card (TRC)
DT1VND 100 billion or moreUp to 5 yearsUp to 10 years
DT2VND 50–100 billionUp to 5 yearsUp to 5 years
DT3VND 3–50 billionUp to 3 yearsUp to 3 years
DT4Below VND 3 billion1 yearNone — renew visa yearly

The practical takeaway: investing at least VND 3 billion (DT3) puts you on the residence-card track instead of an annual visa renewal — a common reason long-term investors register at that level or above.

How to qualify

The DT visa is based on the foreign investor's contribution to a Vietnamese company, evidenced by the Investment Registration Certificate (IRC) and/or Enterprise Registration Certificate (ERC) and capital records. You typically set up or invest in the company first, then apply for the DT visa matching your capital tier, followed by a TRC where eligible.
